Kecapi
Electroacoustic series in three movements, plus a recomposed complete version · 2012–2014
Begun in October 2012, the series is built entirely from manipulated recordings of the kecapi — a plucked zither — recorded in Yogyakarta. Each of the three movements takes a different approach to that same source material. Kecapi I premiered on the Sound Gallery programme at WOCMAT 2012, Taiwan. Kecapi II had its world premiere at WOCMAT 2013 and was named a finalist for the Taiwan International Electroacoustic Music Award that year. Kecapi III premiered at the "Behind the Score" concert, Codarts Rotterdam Conservatorium, in 2013.
In January 2014 the three movements were recomposed into one continuous work, finished for Gaudeamus Muziekdag at Rasa theatre, Utrecht. That complete version was performed as the Kubus Concert at Linux Audio Conference 2014, ZKM_Cube, Karlsruhe — the only Kecapi appearance in a ZKM programme; the individual movements were not separately presented there.
