Spatial Glitsch
Live spatial-audio performance, duo with Suhyun Park · 2016
Made during the 4DSOUND Spatial Sound Hacklab, a three-day workshop held at ZKM Karlsruhe as part of the year-long GLOBALE festival's "Performing Sound, Playing Technology" programme, 5–7 February 2016. Working with sound designer Suhyun Park as the duo "Noise Team," Hartono built Spatial Glitsch in a matter of days on 4DSOUND — a wave-field spatial audio system — with only a couple of hours' rehearsal on the system itself.
A review by the Spatial Sound Institute described the results as "a remarkably accomplished sounding performance," noting the piece was live-controlled in the space via two iPads, drawing heavily on 4DSOUND's path-based spatialisation tools (the 4D.Animator software) to move sound through the room in real time.
