90 Seconds of Chaos
Fixed-media composition · 2016
A short fixed-media piece presented in the Sound Gallery programme of the 2016 Joint WOCMAT–IRCAM Forum Conference, held at Kainan University, Taiwan, 14–16 December 2016 — Hartono's third WOCMAT appearance, following Kecapi I (2012) and Kecapi II (2013).
In his own programme note: "Fixed media composition that inspired by Gendy of Iannis Xenakis. In this composition I used 'Gendy' Ugen of Supercollider to generate stochastic timbre." Xenakis's Gendy is a stochastic synthesis method that generates waveforms directly from probability distributions rather than fixed oscillators; here it is realised through SuperCollider's Gendy unit generator.
