The Return

Track 6 on Anthology of Contemporary Music from Indonesia (Unexplained Sounds Group, USG058), a fourteen-track compilation curated and mastered by Raffaele Pezzella and released in Italy on 3 April 2020, gathering some of Indonesia's most prominent experimental musicians — Senyawa, Wukir Suryadi, Rully Shabara and others — alongside Hartono's own fixed-media work.

The compilation has drawn a strong response within the international experimental-music community, and situates Hartono's practice directly within the same lineage as Senyawa and Wukir Suryadi — Indonesian artists who, like him, work from traditional and vernacular sound sources toward experimental ends.
